RAID manufacturer leveraging Avnet’s storage expertise and logistics to improve product availability

 

Nettetal, 10 March 2008 – Avnet Technology Solutions, an operating group of global technology distributor Avnet Inc. (NYSE:AVT) today announced it has been appointed as a “master distributor” in Europe for Fibrenetix, one of the leading RAID system manufacturers. In this role, Avnet will work with Fibrenetix’ existing distributors providing marketing and sales support of its RAID products in order to further expand the market for its RAID products. At the same time, Avnet will improve the availability of Fibrenetix products through its extensive warehousing capabilities and centrally managed shipping. Avnet will work with small and local distributors to ensure greater product availability for them as well.

 

Under the agreement, Avnet Technology Solutions will distribute the entire Fibrenetix product range in Europe – from entry-level systems up to high-end rack-mounted systems. Avnet Technology Solutions markets and sells storage products around the globe and has developed major storage competence over the years. “With Fibrenetix we now have a partner on board through whom we can also supply small and medium-sized enterprises with cost-effective and powerful RAID systems,” said Thomas Kleinkuhnen, director Open Storage for Avnet Technology Solutions EMEA. “In return, besides our outstanding storage know-how, Fibrenetix also wants to use Avnet’s logistics capabilities to supply small and local distributors.”

 

Fibrenetix produces powerful IDE, SATA, SCSI, fibre channel and ISCSI RAID systems. These are built with data rates of up to 700 megabytes per second, high data availability and fail-safe operation  for applications such as digital video and pre- and post-production editing.  In addition, Fibrenetix products offer a cost-effective “backup-to-disk” option. “With Fibrenetix we can round off our portfolio and also offer high performance special solutions, especially in the environment of film and video editing, with a good price-performance ratio,” said Kleinkuhnen.  Fibrenetix was the first vendor in its price class to bring RAID 6 to market as far back as the spring of 2004.

Nagel added, “2008 will see many new products from Fibrenetix. Our SAS to fibre range and new IP storage products will be launched in the spring, with additional products for our post-production and AV customers later in the year.”
